Who has to do CE?
All certified firefighters, officers, and instructors — no exceptions.

How many hours are required (2022–2025 cycle)?

  • Firefighter: 36 total hours per 3-year cycle

  • Officer: 12 hours

  • Instructor: 12 hours

  •  Officer and Instructor hours can overlap with Firefighter hours during this cycle.

What counts as CE?

  • Department training

  • Online training (free or paid)

  • State, national, or third-party fire training

  • If it’s fire-related and documented, it usually counts.

Documentation rule (this matters):

  • You must keep proof of training

  • Proof = certificate, roster, or training record

  • If it’s online → print the certificate

Your responsibility:

  • You are responsible for completing CE

  • You are responsible for keeping your certificates

  • You are responsible for attesting in SMOKE
